Summary:
Naruto makes an unexpected deal with the Nine-Tailed Fox.

The Vulpine Princess

Naruto was nervously pacing in a circle in the hospital hallway outside the delivery room as a stoic Sasuke sat on a bench.

“Sit down, Naruto. Hinata has already given birth to three kids before with Sakura’s help. There’s no need to worry.”

“Easy for you to say, Sasuke, but I have this feeling of dread, as though something has gone wrong,” said Naruto.

Sakura walked out of the delivery room with a bundle in her arms. The look on her face had confirmed Naruto’s worst fears. “I'm sorry, Naruto, but there’s been a complication with twins. We did whatever we could, but we couldn't save the first twin girl.”

Sakura handed the baby to Naruto. “Lady Tsunade and Shizune are doing all they can to save the other twin.”

Naruto remained silent as he looked at his daughter.

Sasuke calmly spoke. “Sakura, I suggest you go back inside. Naruto needs some time alone.”

Sakura nodded as she quickly returned to the delivery room as she left Naruto to mourn for his stillborn baby daughter.

Before Naruto had time to mourn for his lost child, he found himself and his child in front of Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox.

“Now is not the right time, Kurama.”

“On the contrary,” said the Fox. “I have an offer for you that you might be interested in. It would give your daughter a chance at life.”

The nine-tailed fox calmly lower his head closer to the cage doors. With nothing to lose, Naruto decided to listen to Kurama. “What are you offering?”

“When you were born, your father had split my Chakra into two halves. I’m borrowing that idea by transferring half of my Chakra from you to your daughter. My chakra should be enough to restart her young heart and give life to her,” explained Kurama. “The process may cut your lifespan by a bit, but since you’re an Uzumaki, I’m sure you’ll be able to watch your daughter grow up into a beautiful woman.”

“You're willing to do that for me?” asked Naruto. “If you came up with that idea before I knew your name, I would have been appalled, thinking it’s some plot to free yourself. But, I trust you, Kurama.”

“After all that you did for me, giving your daughter a chance at life is a suitable repayment.”

Naruto could tell that Kurama was hiding his true feelings because he didn’t want to admit that he was doing it out of the goodness of his heart.

“Ok, I get it. How about I let you decide the name of your new ‘host’?” Naruto offered.

Sanae would be a fitting name for your daughter,” Kurama replied.

Naruto looked at the baby in his arms. “Thank you, Kurama.”

“Now, bring the kit to me and I'll do the rest.”

Naruto walked up to Kurama as the Fox looked at the baby. “She looks so much like you. I hope she won’t feel the same burden you felt when you were a kit.”

“Don't worry. She has a loving family who will protect her.”

Kurama smiled as he stretched out his clenched paw as Naruto returned the gesture by bumping it with a closed fist. “Though I can’t guarantee that she won’t be unpredictable like you...”

“Naruto!” Sakura was shaking Naruto out of his trance. “Your baby is crying.”

Naruto found himself back outside the delivery room, where he had received his child from Sakura. He quickly looked at the crying baby in his arms. It was proof that his daughter is alive.

“It's a miracle,” said Sakura. “Naruto, I should check on her to make sure that she's healthy.”

Naruto gave his daughter to Sakura. “Take good care of Sanae.”

“It's a beautiful name, Naruto.” Sakura carried baby Sanae back into the delivery room.

Naruto looked outside the hospital window at a faint reflection of himself. 'Thank you, Kurama.'

“So, what did Kurama do?” Sasuke was still sitting on the bench behind Naruto. He happened to witness the ‘miracle’, but didn’t say a thing.

Naruto looked back at his friend. “I don’t know how to explain it, but I think Kurama may have chosen my daughter to be his next Jinchuriki by giving her a chance at life.”

Sasuke looked at Naruto. “Normally, the previous Jinchuriki would have died, or at least lose a lot of Chakra during the transfer process but you’re still alive.”

“When I was born, my father sealed half of Kurama’s Chakra in my body while he kept the other half within him,” Naruto explained. “That gave Kurama the idea to volunteer giving half of his Chakra to my daughter. I don’t know if I have shortened my lifespan, but it’s a price I’m willing to pay to give my daughter a chance at life.”

Better to fight for something than live for nothing,” said Sasuke. “You never cease to amaze me, Naruto. No one would have expected that the most powerful Bijuu would even volunteer giving his Chakra to your daughter, and yet I’ve seen it happen right in front of me.”

Naruto grinned. “Whether I become Hokage or not, I must do everything I can to teach and protect the future generation of Shinobis until it’s their turn to inherit our will.”

‘And perhaps in time, my little Vulpine Princess will create her own legend.’
